GOUT

WHAT IS GOUT?

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. Uric acid is a byproduct of the breakdown of purines, substances found in certain foods and naturally occurring in the body. When the body produces too much uric acid or cannot excrete it efficiently, crystals accumulate, leading to inflammation and intense pain in the affected joints.

TREATING GOUT

Physicians often prescribe medications to manage gout symptoms and prevent future flare-ups. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), colchicine, and corticosteroids are commonly used to relieve pain and inflammation during acute attacks. Lifestyle modifications and medications that lower uric acid in the body can also help with managing gout. Request an Appointment with AVALA Care today, for a personalized treatment plan!
