Susan Ovella, M.D. Internal Medicine Physician & Pediatrician
Dr. Susan Ovella has deep roots in the Greater New Orleans area and more than 25 years of experience caring for patients of all ages. She is double board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Born in New Orleans and raised in Metairie, Dr. Ovella has spent her entire education and medical career serving the community she calls home.
She completed her undergraduate education in New Orleans before earning her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Ovella completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at LSU New Orleans, where she also served as Chief Resident in 2000.
Dr. Ovella was drawn to medicine by a lifelong love of science and learning, fascinated by how the human body works and how all its systems fit together. As a physician, she finds joy not only in caring for patients but also in sharing that curiosity and inspiring others through education and partnership.
Her passion for primary care stems from her broad interests across all specialties and age groups. Rather than choosing a single focus, Dr. Ovella embraced the opportunity to care for entire families—from newborns to geriatric patients—often across multiple generations. For more than two decades, she has practiced primary care on the Northshore, building long-standing relationships with patients and families rooted in trust and continuity.
For Dr. Ovella, patient care is deeply personal. She values the relationships formed through primary care and finds fulfillment in every positive outcome and heartfelt thank-you.
“Caring for families feels as if they are part of my own,” she says. “I treat patients as a partnership. With respect, I try to educate each patient so they can make the best healthcare decisions for themselves. I truly value that they choose me for their primary care.”
She is excited to continue serving the Northshore as part of AVALA, sharing the organization’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centered medicine.
“I am excited to be part of a growing Northshore medical community with AVALA that values patient care as I do—above all else.”
